Antismoking laws and how they went too far

On the first of May 2013, a law was introduced in Northrhine-Westfalia that banned smoking in bars and restaurants. Before the law, smoker bars and smoking rooms in restaurants were tolerated by law. Hookah bars had to close because their existence is built upon smoking hookahs. Citizens and politicians coined the law the "Smoker persecution law" (actual law name is "Non-smoker protection law"). It is already facing opposition. In some German federal states where higher percentages of smokers are present, such a law is unthinkable.

In my opinion, it goes too far. Having bars exclusively for smokers was fairly acceptable, but civil liberties shouldnt be taken away. Who in the world goes into a smoker bar anyways to complain that people are smoking there? And almost always the only employee at the bar is the bar owner or another smoker. So I do not want to hear the bullcrap that employees are being unwillingly exposed to SHS, because if you get a job in a smoking environment, then you have to be willing to tolerate the smoke. Otherwise, look for a different job. A number of bars have already closed due to bad business. Why? Because the people who complain almost never visit bars! In my home state, people would be rioting over this because the smoker rate amongst adults is 53%.

In conclusion, a non-smoker protection law should only protect non-smokers and not disadvantage places where they are barely present or recommendedly shouldnt be present.
